Last weekend’s wonderful day in the COMFY Garden with Makenna, Kyla, Amber Rose, and Grandpa Bob.  Re-building planter boxes, turning soil, and planting seeds for broccoli, kale, spinach, and chard. Planting basil, watering everything, feeding the worms, making lavendar bouquets, and enjoying each other’s company – Thank you everyone!

Now it is time to pack our gear and set out on the mission.  From June 20th through June 26th we will be building a home for a family in Tijuana and then visiting Casa Hogar Sion Orphanage. Spring has sprung in the COMFY (Community for Youth) Garden!  We’ve turned and amended the soil, rotated the compost, fed the worms, planted seeds, and given them a drink of water.  Here are some photos of Hannah D. and I putting stakes in the beds to label all our seedlings: spaghetti squash, zucchini, cantaloupe, bok choy, carrots, lots of lettuce, and a scattering of wild flowers just for fun.  Next up, beans, corn, onions, bell peppers, sunflowers, zinnias, and gladiolus.  Oh, the lavendar is looking and smelling fabulous by the way! We just returned from our Spring Mexico Mission as volunteer staff for Amor Ministries during the busy spring break housebuilding season. We got to work with and encourage a group with members from Calgary, Canada and Folsom, California who built homes for two families – one family was a single mom with three children and the other was a mom, dad, and two children, who turned their home into a soup kitchen to feed needy children and families in the neighborhood. 

In addition we also delivered a full truckload of donations (thank you to everyone for the clothes, toys, basketball supplies, diapers, formula, and other goodies) to Casa Hogar Sion Orphanage. Special thanks to St. Cecilia’s CYO Basketball and to Cara K. and the Starbucks Crew in Orange County for your collections.
