Mentoring

Mentoring Relationships:

Offer Empowerment

LifeSupportM.org’s mentoring program empowers people of all ages to develop self-confidence and to learn and hone valuable life skills through identifying personal and career values, self reflection, and hands on community service projects which in turn will teach them how to take inventory of their lives and how to make achievable plans and goals for their every day lives and their future.

Help Find and Define Values, Purpose, & Meaning

Our mentoring program offers an opportunity to tap into life’s purpose, mission, and personal meaning by getting out in the world to share the breadth and depth of talents, skills, and life experiences.

Encourage Development of Real Time, Useable Skills

What do you want to do? Where do you want to go? Who do you want to help? What do you want to learn? The best way to answer these questions is to get out into the world and learn how to run the business of you from the inside out – from writing to websites, from finances and fundraising to marketing and time management, from team building to leadership, and much, much more.

Our mentoring relationships include life skill lessons in:

  • Reflection, Self Expression & Communication - Exploring self expression through reflective journaling and art. Learning how to communicate through listening, learning, talking, and laughing with each other.

  • Values Identification - Identifying and prioritizing core personal and career values and strengths that motivate your daily actions and interactions with yourself and the world through conversations, personality profiles, and values exercises.

  • Goal Setting, Work Ethic & Financial Responsibility - How to name and prioritize internal values, identify dreams, set achievable goals, make and follow task lists to achieve those dreams for personal success and in helping the world become a better place. Developing a strong work ethic through working in a garden learning how to compost, planting vegetables and flowers, and tending a flock of chickens.

  • Team Work & Building Relationships - Building long lasting relationships through shared experiences of travel, work projects, brainstorming ideas, and more. Learning how to work as a team through planning, preparing, cooking, baking, and sharing food and meals together.

Around the world on the wings of a dove.

This is Brooke. She graduated from college with a degree in…and had several job offers right away. But, she recognized that she was not ready to jump into a 40 hour a week job and all that would go along with it.

What she really wanted to do was travel around the world to collect life experiences and interview people about how they chose the life they were living. She also wanted to explore nature, permaculture, and sustainable farming and living opportunities. She also wanted to honor her late Uncle, whose nickname was “Dove”, who encouraged her to always follow her intuition and explore the world.

She came to LifeSupportM.org with her dream of traveling the world and we helped her make it happen.

Growing in the garden.

This is Andrew (and two young garden helpers). Andrew was a sophomore/junior in college and was unsure if he could finish his college degree in the way he wanted to. Because he was financially dependent on his parents, he felt obliged to focus on their dreams for him rather than his own dreams. In addition, Andrew wanted to learn how to be self sufficient and confident in his abilities to take care of himself in everyday living.

He came to LifeSupportM.org with his dream of becoming self sufficient and finishing his college degree on his own terms and we helped him make it happen.

Home school graduation plans.

This is Eric. Eric was just about to graduate from his high school home schooling program. He decided that before he applied for college he wanted to gain some experience through international travel and working for a non-profit so he could learn, explore, and volunteer as he percolated his thinking for his future college goals.

He came to LifeSupportM.org with his ideas and dreams for his college planning and we helped him make it happen.

Mexico House Building Mission

The Mexico Mission house-building project empowers young people and their adult and college age mentors to build an 11’ x 22’ home with a concrete slab foundation, strong wood walls, rain proof roof, operable windows, and stucco exterior for a family in the Tijuana/Tecate area of Mexico. Families in these border towns are often living in tarp tents with rain, wind, and weather pouring in from every crevice and have no safe place for their family to sleep or to keep their belongings.

The Mexico Mission house-building endeavor creates opportunities for cross-cultural understanding and it helps create consciousness of the conditions of poverty through immersion.  In a world with many problems this is a life changing experience, not only in the living standards of our families in Mexico, but also in the spiritual, living, and emotional lives of the participating young people and their adult mentors.
